Setup Guide - Sync with iPhone or iPad via iTunes/Outlook

CompanionLink does not sync directly to the iPhone via USB - iTunes includes support for syncing Outlook contacts and calendar to to the iPhone via USB. CompanionLink works by syncing your CRM data to Outlook, and letting iTunes take over from there. CompanionLink also offers other sync methods to sync directly with the iPhone.

NOTE: ALWAYS back up your data before configuring CompanionLink.

Initial Setup

  1. Backup your data.
  2. Install iTunes 7.3 or higher on your PC if you have not done so already.
  3. Connect your handheld to iTunes and set this up to sync with Outlook.
    1. Connect the iPhone to the computer.
    2. Open iTunes.
    3. In the lefthand column, look for Devices.
    4. Under Devices, click on your iPhone.
    5. Information about your iPhone will appear.
    6. On the Summary tab, check the box for "Automatically sync when the iPhone is connected".
    7. On the Info tab, under Contacts, check the box for "Sync contacts from:", then select Outlook from the dropdown menu.
    8. On the same tab, under Calendars, check the box for "Sync contacts from:", then select Outlook from the dropdown menu.
  4. Install CompanionLink if you have not done so already.
  5. Run CompanionLink Setup.
  6. Choose "Apple iPhone (via Outlook)" as your sync target.
  7. Select your contact manager and configure any appropriate settings.

How to sync

  1. Connect the device to the computer using a USB cable.
  2. Open iTunes and make sure that your device is shown in iTunes.
  3. Open CompanionLink and click Synchronize.
  4. You may receive a popup window from Outlook requesting permission for iTunes to read the database. Click Allow.
  5. Once CompanionLink finishes syncing to Outlook, iTunes will automatically begin the sync with your device.
