Multiple Profiles versus Category Manager
Contents |
Introduction
In both CompanionLink Professional and CompanionLink FA you will find the option to create either multiple Profiles or to utilize the Category Manager. This article will discuss the strengths of each option and provide suggestions for when they should be utilized.
Multiple Profiles
While CompanionLink is purchased on a per user license agreement we recognize many individuals may wish to utilize the software for multiple syncs. Below are some recommendations for utilizing different profiles:
Multiple Devices
Some customers may have multiple devices they wish to sync to. When syncing to more than one device it is always recommended you utilize the profiles capability. Simply create a profile of each of the devices and configure the settings accordingly.
Please do keep in mind syncing two different devices to the same database will result in the content being merged.
Two Different Sync Scenarios
If you are syncing from two different Contact Managers to two different PDA's it is recommended you use the Profiles capability. Simply create a profile for each of the different syncs.
Category Manager
The Category Manager is designed to sync multiple folders or databases without merging the content of the databases together. It also has the capability of excluding items you don't wish to sync. Below are some examples of times we recommend using the Category Manager:
Multiple Databases
Even if you are syncing two different databases as long as they are being synchronized to the same device you can utilize the Category Manager to do so.
Multiple Folders
This occurs most often when a user has multiple folders in Outlook. To avoid the folder contents being merged back from a two way synchronization the Category Manager can be configured to synchronize more than one folder.
