If this is your first time using CompanionLink, we recommend you take a minute and review our Sync 101 page. It contains helpful information about how to prepare a proper sync environment to minimize potential problems.

Before proceeding, please make a backup of your database.


Summary

Setup CompanionLink on your PC (Full Instructions)

  1. Download and install CompanionLink if you have not already done so. CompanionLink Downloads
  2. Run "CompanionLink Setup" from your desktop or start menu.
  3. Choose "BlackBerry (CL Secure Hosted Sync)" from the first drop-down option (Select your sync target).
  4. Click "BlackBerry Settings" and setup a new wireless sync account (Leave payment info blank to try free for 14 days).
  5. Select your contact manager from second drop-down option (Select your Contact Manager).
  6. Click the Contact Manager Settings button (e.g. Outlook Settings, Lotus Notes Settings...).
  7. Select the database you wish to synchronize with (if applicable). How to configure your contact manager.
  8. OPTIONAL: Configure advanced settings.


Setup your BlackBerry device (Full Instructions)

  1. Visit http://www.companionlink.com/mobile from your Blackberry device.
  2. Tap the download link for BlackBerry and follow the onscreen instructions to install DejaLink. Full installation instructions
  3. Open DejaLink (Downloads folder), select Settings, and enter the username and password for your wireless sync account.
  4. OPTIONAL: Configure DejaLink to auto-sync in the background.


How to sync (Full Instructions)

  1. Open CompanionLink on your PC, then click the "Synchronize" button (auto-sync is also an available option). Your data will be synchronized to CompanionLink's secure servers.
  2. Open DejaLink from your BlackBerry device, and select "Synchronize". Data will be synchronized between CompanionLink's secure servers and your device.

We currently do not have a setup video available for syncing with BlackBerry via CL Secure Hosted Sync. The video below shows CompanionLink syncing to an Android device - the steps to setup and configure CompanionLink on the PC will still be the same. For help setting up your BlackBerry device, follow the steps further down in this setup guide.

Registering CompanionLink

The 14-day trial software is fully functional. To register your paid license, enter the name and email address you used to purchase the software in the CompanionLink registration window (File > Register). CompanionLink is registered from within the software and requires an internet connection in order to verify your license.

Back up your Data

CompanionLink cannot be held responsible for any data corruption or data loss that may occur in conjunction with our software. CompanionLink highly recommends backing up your PC database before performing a sync and on a regular basis.

Configuring CompanionLink

1. Open the CompanionLink Setup icon from your desktop or start menu. The first time you open CompanionLink the screen will appear as below:

2. In the first dropdown, select BlackBerry (CL Secure Hosted Sync).

Configuring your device settings

  1. Click the "BlackBerry Settings" button within CompanionLink. BB-SH-3.png
  2. Create a new account by entering:
    1. Username for the account
    2. Password of at least 6 characters
    3. Valid Email Address

      If you already have an account and have reinstalled CompanionLink you can enter the previous account information.

  3. Click the "Payment Info" button and enter your credit card information for monthly billing.
    NOTE: You can leave the Payment Info blank to try the service free for 14 days.
  4. Click OK to return to the main CompanionLink window.

Configuring your database settings

You will now need to configure CompanionLink with the database you wish to sync with. Each contact manager works a bit differently:

Configuring your BlackBerry device

  1. On your BlackBerry, open the DejaLink application you recently downloaded (look in your Downloads folder). Blackberry-DejaLinkDownload.png

  3. OPTIONAL: Configure DejaLink to auto-sync in the background. This will periodically check for new data to sync, and may use additional battery resources.

Performing a Sync

  1. Open CompanionLink on your PC, then click the "Synchronize" button (auto-sync is also an available option). Your data will be synchronized to CompanionLink's secure servers. Select Synchronize
  2. Open DejaLink from your BlackBerry device, and select "Synchronize". Data will be synchronized between CompanionLink's secure servers and your device.
