Outlook ScanPST or ScanOST instructions

In order to resolve database corruption in your Microsoft Outlook PST\OST file, please follow the steps outlined below.

Backup Outlook

It is suggested that you complete a back up of your database prior to running these step: Backup Outlook Data

Run the ScapPST\OST Tool

The PST\OST Scanner and repair tool comes preinstalled with Office. To find it, you can:

  1. Click the Start Menu of Windows.
  2. In the Search bar type "ScanPST".
  3. Select the ScanPST from the results, select the PST\OST you want to repair then click Start.
  • Note: Run the Scan until it comes back clean with no errors, this might take a couple of passes.

If you need to find the ScanPST tool manually the file is typically located in one of the following folders:

Office 365\2019\2016:

  1. For 64-bit Outlook C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16
  2. For 64-bit Outlook C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16
  3. For 32-bit Outlook C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16
  4. For 32-bit Windows C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16


Office 2013:

  1. For 64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\office15
  2. For 32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\office15


Outlook 2010:

  1. For 64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
  2. For 32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14


Outlook 2007:

  1. For 64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
  2. For 32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12


NOTE: If the these steps do not clear the corruption problems, you can Send a CompanionLink PC Sync Log. It will allow support to identify where the problem is in your Outlook files.
