Symtoms

You are trying to configure a synchronization for an Apple device with the USB cable via Outlook and CompanionLink prompts you to install iTunes or update to version 7 or better of the program and you already have the latest version of iTunes installed and or have version 7 or better.

Fix

Perform a repair installation of iTunes. The steps below have been gleaned from Apple's own support site.

Repairing the iTunes installation in Windows Vista and Windows 7

  1. Quit iTunes, if it is open.
  2. On the Start menu, click Control Panel and under Programs, click Uninstall a program. Alternately, in Classic View of Control Panel, click Programs and Features.
  3. Click iTunes in the list of installed programs.
  4. Click Repair.
  5. Again, click Repair.

Repairing the iTunes installation in Windows XP and Windows 2000

  1. Quit iTunes, if it is open.
  2. Click Start, and point to Control Panel.
  3. Open Add or Remove Programs.
  4. Click iTunes in the list of installed programs.
  5. Click the Change/Remove button. The InstallShield Wizard opens.
  6. Select Repair and click Next. Continue with the installation.
  7. At the Maintenance Successful screen, select "Yes, I want to restart my computer now."
  8. Click Finish.
