Performing Database Maintenance

ACT! 4.0, 5.0/2000, 6.0:

Follow these steps to compress and reindex your ACT! database:

  1. Open ACT!.
  2. Make sure your database is open.
  3. Go to the File menu and choose Administration, then click on Database Maintenance.
  4. The Database Maintenance window will open. Click on the Periodic Maintenance tab.
  5. Make sure there is a check in the checkbox next to Compress Database.
  6. Click Reindex.
  7. When this process finishes, exit ACT!.

ACT! 2005 and higher:

Follow these steps to check and repair your ACT! database:

  1. Open ACT!.
  2. Make sure your database is open.
  3. Go to the Tools menu and choose Database Maintenance.
  4. Select Check And Repair.
  5. The Check And Repair window will open.
  6. Make sure there is a check in the checkbox next to Integrity Check and Re-Index.
  7. Click OK.

GoldMine

Follow these steps to rebuild and repack your GoldMine database:

NOTE: If anyone else is logged into GoldMine, they will need to log out before you can do this.

  1. Open GoldMine.
  2. Make sure your database is open.
  3. Go to the File menu and choose Maintain Databases.
  4. GoldMine's Maintenance Wizard will open.
  5. The default selection is Current Contact Set Files. Click Next.
  6. The Rebuild, Sort and Verify Database Files window will open.
  7. Put a checkmark next to 'Rebuild and Pack the database files'.

NOTE: Do NOT check any of the other boxes.

  1. Click Next.
  2. Clicking Finish on this screen will start the database repair.

Lotus Notes 6.0+

  1. Go to the Start Menu and click Run.
  2. Type cmd and press Enter. This will take you to a command prompt.
  3. Type (with quotes)
    "cd C:\Program Files\Lotus\Notes"
    and press Enter.
  4. Type Nfixup.exe and press Enter.
  5. When finished, type NCompact.exe and press Enter.
  6. When finished, type Nupdall.exe and press Enter.
  7. Type exit to exit the command prompt window.

Time & Chaos / Intellect

  1. Open Time & Chaos.
  2. Go to the Help menu.
  3. Click on the option for DbTools.
  4. You will see four options, Repair Appointments, Repair Tasks, Repair Contacts and Repair Memos. Choose the area you want to repair.
  5. The dbRepair utility will open.
  6. The database path will be listed at the top of the window. Beneath that will be three buttons, Rebuild, Reindex and Compact. Use each of these buttons.

Outlook Business Contact Manager

For BCM with Outlook 2010, follow these steps:

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Go to the File tab, then select the Business Contact Manager menu from the left
  3. Click Manage Databases, then Check for Errors.
  4. Click Start to run the utility.

For BCM with Outlook 2007, follow these steps:

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Go to the Business Contact Manager menu.
  3. Select Database Tools, then Manage Database.
  4. Click on Check for Errors.
  5. Click Start to run the utility.
