How to back up your DejaOffice database

Backing up DejaOffice for Android

Making a backup from a PC (Android OS 11 and higher)

  1. Connect your Android device to your PC and mount it as a disk drive (i.e. mass storage mode).
  2. On your PC, open Computer or My Computer and browse to your Phone storage.
  3. Browse to the \Android\data\com.companionlink.clusbsync\files\ folder on your Phone storage. Inside this folder you should see a file named "companionlink.db". This is your DejaOffice database.
  4. To back up the database, simply copy companionlink.db to a secure location on your computer.
  • Note: In OS 11+, the new data folder is only visible from the PC, the Android File explorer will not display data in the Android\Data folders.


Making a backup from a PC (Android OS 10 and lower)

  1. Connect your Android device to your PC and mount it as a disk drive (i.e. mass storage mode).
  2. On your PC, open Computer or My Computer and browse to your Phone storage.
  3. Browse to the clusb folder on your Phone storage. Inside this folder you should see a file named "companionlink.db". This is your DejaOffice database.
  4. To back up the database, simply copy companionlink.db to a secure location on your computer.
  • Note: If you also want to back up contact photos, copy the "ContactPictures" folder to a secure location.


Making a quick backup from DejaOffice

  1. Open DejaOffice
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap Logging and Support Settings
  4. Select Backup Database
  • Note: If given the option choose Persistent\Internal\Default Storage


Emailing a backup from DejaOffice

  1. Open DejaOffice
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap Logging and Support Settings
  4. Select Email Support, an email template will open, erase the "to" field and replace it with your email address.

Restoring a backed up DejaOffice for Android database:

Restoring from a PC Backup Automatically (Build 1524 and higher)

  1. Open DejaOffice.
  2. Tap Settings, tap Logging and Support Settings.
  3. Tap the "Restore a Backup" and select the backup with a file size\time and date stamp that looks correct.
  • Note: You might have to allow access to the Android Documents folder for the Backup list to load.

Restoring from a PC Backup Manually

  1. Connect your Android device to your PC and mount it as a disk drive (i.e. mass storage mode).
  2. On your PC, open Computer or My Computer and browse to your Phone storage.
  3. Place the backed up copy of companionlink.db in your clusb folder on the device.
  • NOTE: If you've also backed up the "ContactPictures" directory, place it in the clusb folder as well.

Restoring from an automatic\manual DejaOffice backup

  1. Connect your Android device to your PC and mount it as a disk drive (i.e. mass storage mode).
  2. On your PC, open Computer or My Computer and browse to your Phone storage.
  3. In the internal\default storage find the CLUSB folder and within it open the Backup folder.
  4. Find the most recent date listed (ie companionlink2018-10-12.db).
  5. Rename this file erasing just the date to leave only "companionlink.db".
  6. In the base CLUSB folder from step 3, copy to and replace the current companionlink.db with the backup.
  • NOTE: We still recommend backing up the original companionlink.db from the CLUSB folder before replacing it with one of the backups.

Backing up DejaOffice for iPhone\iPad

Backup using Email:

  1. Open DejaOffice on the iPhone\iPad.
  2. Tap Settings, scroll to the bottom, tap Backup Database and choose "Use Email".
  3. Choose whether or not to include contact photos, and tap "Make Backup File".
  4. This will open an email template. Enter your own email and tap send.


Backup using Dropbox:

  1. Open DejaOffice on the iPhone\iPad.
  2. Tap Settings, scroll to the bottom, tap Backup Database and choose "Use Dropbox".
  3. Choose whether or not to include contact photos, and tap "Backup to Dropbox" (if this is the first time, you will need to sign in to your Dropbox account".
  4. You backup will begin and tell you when it is completed.


To restore a backed up DejaOffice for iPhone\iPad database:

Restore using Emailed Backup:

  1. On the new iPhone\iPad, reinstall the DejaOffice App from the App Store.
  2. Open the email you sent yourself from the previous "Backing Up" steps.
  3. Within the email tap the "backup.djobackup" file attachment, scroll the carousel of apps at the top of the menu and tap DejaOffice.
  4. Type "YES" in the box to confirm, tap "Restore Now" and tap OK. Reopen the App to the restored database.


Restore using Dropbox Backup:

  1. On the new iPhone\iPad, reinstall the DejaOffice App from the App Store (You can also restore with an existing DejaOffice install).
  2. Tap Settings, tap General Setting, scroll to the bottom, tap Backup Database and choose "Use Dropbox".
  3. Select "Restore from Dropbox" and select the backup you want to restore (you might be prompted to sign in to Dropbox).
  4. Type "YES" in the box to confirm, tap "Restore Now" and tap OK. The database will be restored.
