Google Android Privacy Changes impact CompanionLink USB Sync

As of May 5th 2021, Google has changed their policy as related to Storage Permissions and are now requiring all apps to conform to new storage locations for their App's Data when targeting Android OS 11 and above. This impacts the CompanionLink and DejaOffice USB sync with Android.

  • May 2021: If your Android is using Android OS 11 and this is a new install of DejaOffice you will need CompanionLink 9 Build 9040 or higher to sync with the latest DejaOffice vUSB.


  • November 2021: All USB syncs by will need CompanionLink 9 Build 9040 or higher to sync.


Google's change to the Android Storage permissions requires a key component of USB Sync to be updated.

  • Note: This change does not impact Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or DejaCloud sync. Sync will continue to work with older CompanionLink builds using these Sync Methods.

How to Update CompanionLink

Automatic Update Check:

CompanionLink (version 9 & 10) does a check every 15 days for an updated build. To update from this check:

  1. Open CompanionLink Setup on the PC.
  2. In the bottom right, above the Build Number, click the blue "An Update is Available!" text.
  3. Click Yes to download and install the Update.
  4. When prompted click the big "Update" button and click Allow on the User Account Control Popup.
  • Note: On some machines, the UAC message does not popup automatically, be sure to check the Windows Task bar for the Blue and Yellow shield.

To confirm the update, in the bottom right of CompanionLink verify the build is now 9046 (or higher).

Manual Update:

  1. Click Here to download the latest version of CompanionLink.
  2. Once downloaded, click the downloaded setup file and click Update.
  3. Select Yes on the Windows UAC popup.
  4. Select OK to Finish the installation.
  • Note: On some machines, the UAC message does not popup automatically, be sure to check the Windows Task bar for the Blue and Yellow shield.

How to Update DejaOffice PC CRM and CompanionLink

Automatic Update Check for DejaOffice PC CRM:

DejaOffice PC CRM does a check every 15 days for an updated build. To update from this check:

  1. Open DejaOffice PC CRM on the PC.
  2. In the bottom left, above the Build Number, click the blue "An Update is Available!" text.
  3. Click Yes to download and install the Update.
  4. When prompted click the big "Update" button and click Allow on the User Account Control Popup.
  • Note: On some machines, the UAC message does not popup automatically, be sure to check the Windows Task bar for the Blue and Yellow shield.


Automatic Update Check for CompanionLink (DejaOffice PC CRM Sync):

  1. Open DejaOffice PC CRM on the PC.
  2. Select Settings in the bottom left and click Sync Settings.
  3. In the top right check for "An Update is available!" message, and click the Download button on the right.
  4. When prompted click the big "Update" button and click Allow on the User Account Control Popup.
  • Note: On some machines, the UAC message does not popup automatically, be sure to check the Windows Task bar for the Blue and Yellow shield.


Manual Update:

  1. Click Here to download the latest version of DejaOffice PC CRM.
  2. Once downloaded, click the downloaded setup file and click Update.
  3. Select Yes on the Windows UAC popup.
  4. Select OK to Finish the installation.

Repeat these steps for CompanionLink.
