Third Party Software Removal

CompanionLink is considered to be third party synchronization software. This means that it is not compatible with most other third party synchronization software. In order to use CompanionLink, you must first remove this software, and then make sure your handheld can synchronize with its own synchronization software (such as Microsoft ActiveSync or HotSync Manager). Only after doing that can you install CompanionLink and configure it.

If you are using one of the programs below, please follow the instructions for removing that program.

  1. General instructions
  2. ACT! for Palm OS
  3. ACT! Link (Palm)
  4. Agendus
  5. GoldMine conduits (Palm)
  6. GoldMine conduits (Windows CE/Pocket PC/Windows Mobile)
  7. Intellisync (Windows CE/PC)
  8. Outlook (Palm)
  9. Verizon wireless

ACT! for Palm OS
You do not need to uninstall this. ACT! for Palm OS and CompanionLink do not conflict with each other. This is because ACT! for Palm OS is a separate program on your handheld which has its own conduit in HotSync Manager and thus does not interfere with CompanionLink's use of the Palm Desktop conduits.

ACT! for Palm OS gives you a mini-ACT! on your handheld. The database you see in this program can be completely different than the one synchronized by CompanionLink.

Agendus
You do not need to uninstall this. Agendus is fully compatible with CompanionLink. Agendus does not synchronize any data. Instead, it is a program on your handheld that allows you to see the data on the handheld in a different way. By default, anything you change or add in Agendus will be synchronized by CompanionLink back to your ACT! database.

Please see How To Configure Agendus For Use With CompanionLink for instructions on how to configure Agendus so that it recognizes CompanionLink's format for linking contacts with activities.

GoldMine conduits (Windows CE/Pocket PC/Windows Mobile)
There is nothing to uninstall when switching from this sync method. The GoldMine conduit for Windows CE/Pocket PC/Windows Mobile handhelds does not install anything on your handheld or in ActiveSync. All you need to do is stop using it.

Outlook conduits (Palm)
In order to use CompanionLink, your handheld must be set up to sync with Palm Desktop. To fix this, you will need to do the following:

  1. Uninstall the Palm software.
  2. Reinstall the Palm software. When you do this, you will be asked what you want to synchronize with. Choose Palm Desktop.
  3. Sync the handheld and make sure that there are no errors in the HotSync log.
  4. Reconfigure CompanionLink. (We recommend selecting the purge and reload option in CompanionLink to prevent duplications from occurring. This option deletes the data from the handheld and then reloads the handheld with the data from your contact manager.)

Verizon wireless
On Palm OS handhelds, the Verizon wireless sync conflicts with the Palm Desktop conduits. The wireless sync must be disabled for the Palm Desktop conduits so that the computer can synchronize with the desktop. If they are not disabled, the HotSync log will say "Synchronization failed" for each of these conduits. The fix for this can be found on our Error messages: Synchronization Failed page.

For Windows Mobile/Pocket PC handhelds, please see Verizon Wireless Sync Removal.
