ACT! Link Removal
The following steps outline the removal of ACT! Link for Palm. This checklist does not apply to ACT! for Palm OS. If you are trying to remove this program, stop here and contact our Technical Support department.
Please follow all directions carefully and make sure to complete every step. If you have any difficulty doing a step or understanding the instructions below, please contact our Technical Support department.
- Find data
- If all of your data is in ACT!, go to step 2.
- If any of your Address Book, Date Book, To Do List or Memo Pad data is solely on your handheld and not in ACT!, please stop at this point and contact our Support Department directly or reply to this message indicating the specific data that must be saved.
- Uninstall ACT! Link and Palm Desktop
- From the Start menu, choose Settings and Control Panel. In the Control Panel, select Add/Remove Programs.
- Uninstall ACT! Link.
- Uninstall Palm Desktop.
- Close the Add/Remove Programs window and the Control Panel.
- Open Windows Explorer and find the Palm folder(s). See Where do I find Palm Desktop? for help finding this folder.
- If you find one of these folders, highlight it and delete it. Note: These folders MUST be deleted. If these folders are not deleted, your data will not synchronize properly.
- Remove CompanionLink settings
- If CompanionLink is not installed, continue to step 4.
- In Windows Explorer, open the CompanionLink directory (under c:\Program Files\CompanionLink and/or c:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\CompanionLink\CompanionLink, depending on your version of Windows), and delete all files ending with an extension of ".dat". If you cannot find these files, please see How To Display All Files for an explanation of how to display all files.
- Reinstall Palm Desktop
- Turn on your handheld and tap the HotSync icon. The username will be listed in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Make a note of this name, including punctuation, spaces and capitalization.
- Install the Palm Desktop software from the original CD. If you do not have this or if this has Palm Desktop version 4.1.2 or higher, you should download the Palm Desktop software from our site instead.
- When prompted to enter username, ensure that you enter the EXACT name as it appeared in the Palm device.
- If prompted to "restore 3rd party conduits" or "restore Palm Desktop conduits", be certain to select "restore Palm Desktop conduits".
- If given the choice between synching with Outlook or a third party program and synching with Palm Desktop, choose to synch with Palm Desktop.
- Do NOT choose to synchronize the handheld at this time if this choice is given.
- Delete current data from the Palm handheld
- Set up a custom HotSync by right-clicking the HotSync Manager icon. (It should be in the Windows system tray in the lower righthand corner of your desktop next to the clock)
- A menu will pop-up. Choose Custom. The Custom menu will open.
- Highlight the AddressBook conduit, and click the Change button. From the Change HotSync Action menu, choose Desktop Overwrites Handheld, but do NOT check the Set As Default option.
- Highlight the DateBook conduit, and click the Change button. From the Change HotSync Action menu, choose Desktop Overwrites Handheld, but do NOT check the Set As Default option.
- Highlight the To Do List conduit, and click the Change button. From the Change HotSync Action menu, choose Desktop Overwrites Handheld, but do NOT check the Set As Default option.
- Highlight the Memo Pad conduit, and click the Change button. From the Change HotSync Action menu, choose Desktop Overwrites Handheld, but do NOT check the Set As Default option.
- Click Done.
- Perform a HotSync. This will empty the relevant conduits without requiring a hard-reset of the handheld.
- Turn on the handheld. Click on the Address Book. Make sure that there is no data in the Address Book. Do the same for the DateBook, To Do List and Memo Pad.
- Configure CompanionLink
- If CompanionLink is not installed, install it now. If you have a disk or downloaded executable, run this. The 15-day evaluation version of CompanionLink may be downloaded from our webpage at http://www.companionlink.com/download.htm.
- Reconfigure CompanionLink.
- Run CompanionLink Setup.
- Click on Settings.
- If you are prompted to select a profile, choose to modify your existing profile and click Next.
- Click Next and Configure.
- Click on the Purge And Reload tab.
- Put checks in all of these boxes. (When prompted if you want to do this, choose Yes.)
- Click Apply, OK, Next and Finish.
- You are now ready to synchronize using CompanionLink. Connect your handheld and press the HotSync button.
