What Is CompanionLink For Google?

CompanionLink for Google is a program that synchronizes the calendar area of a program or handheld with the Google Calendar.

We can also synchronize the Google contacts as long as you are using a Google hosted domain.

CompanionLink for Google is compatible with the following programs and handhelds:

  • BlackBerry/RIM
  • Groupwise 6.5
  • iPhone through Outlook
  • Lotus Notes
  • Outlook 97 through 2003
  • Palm Desktop
  • Palm handhelds
  • Windows CE/Pocket PC/Windows Mobile handhelds through Outlook

CompanionLink for Google can synchronize with multiple Google calendars. This is selected on the Google Calendar tab in CompanionLink Setup.

How do I configure CompanionLink for Google?

  1. Start the configuration process by running CompanionLink Setup.
    • If this is a first sync, you will see a configuration wizard. Select your language from the dropdown menu and click Next.
    • If CompanionLink has already been configured, then click on Settings.
  2. You will be on the Google Calendar Settings window.
    • For Email, fill in your full email address. (Example: user15@gmail.com)
    • For Password, fill in your password. (NOTE: This must contain only alphanumeric (A through z and 0 through 9) characters. If it contains anything else, then you will not be able to use CompanionLink for Google Calendar at this time.)
  3. Click Next.
  4. You will be on the Contact Manager Settings window. Select your contact manager from the dropdown menu.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Click Finish.

How do I configure Google Calendar to allow CompanionLink access?

NOTE: You must do these steps for every Google calendar you wish to synchronize. If access is not allowed for a calendar, you will get an error when trying to synchronize.

  1. Login to Google Calendar using the email address you entered in CompanionLink.
  2. In Google Calendar, go to the My Calendars list.
  3. For each calendar that you want to synchronize with CompanionLink, click the dropdown arrow to the right of the calendar name, then choose Share This Calendar.
  4. The Details window will open.
  5. In the Share With Specific People section, go to Add A New Person.
  6. Enter the email address you entered in CompanionLink if it is not already listed.
  7. Choose the option on the right for Make Changes To Events.
  8. Click on the button for Add Person.

What issues are there with this synchronization?

  • Must have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed for Windows 95 through Windows XP. (Windows Vista requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 instead.)
  • Does not work with proxy servers that require an automatic configuration script.

Are hosted domains supported?

Yes, in build 2644 and higher.
