General
How do I sync?
- Connect your handheld to the computer.
- Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
- Double-click on Intellisync/Synchronize.
- Click on the Synchronize Now button.
How do I link activities on the handheld?
On the BlackBerry, the contact linking information needs to be filled in under the note for the activity. Please see How to link activities for an example of the linking format.
Where does the contact manager data go on the handheld?
The contact data goes to the Address Book. The calendar data goes to the Calendar. The todo list data goes to the Tasks area.
Data not transferring / Errors
Calendar items all one hour off.
This is a bug in CompanionLink due to Daylight Savings Time. You will need to update to CompanionLink 2.0, build 2587, or higher.
If you are already on a higher build, then see our Troubleshooting page.
Calendar not synching
In order for CompanionLink to synchronize with the calendar, the handheld's operating system must be 4.0.2 or higher.
To find the handheld's operating system, go to the handheld and go to Options, then About or Settings and About. The version is typically listed here.
I keep getting the CompanionLink USB wizard when I try to sync.
Update to the current version of CompanionLink from our downloads page.
Please setup this handheld before synchronizing
This error generally occurs for one of the following reasons:
- This is a known bug in CompanionLink Express 2.0, build 2581. You will need to update to CompanionLink 2.0, build 2583, or higher.
- You have BlackBerry/RIM Direct selected in CompanionLink, but have also listed CompanionLink as an add-in in BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Remove CompanionLink from BlackBerry Desktop Manager and use CompanionLink Synchronize to sync your handheld.
- In CompanionLink, there are multiple usernames for your handheld, and the one selected in CompanionLink does not match the PIN in BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Switch To
This is caused by CompanionLink sending data faster than the BlackBerry Desktop Manager can process it. This has been fixed in CompanionLink 2.0, build 2581.
Sync stalls at "Loading"/"Calling Add-In"
This problem is typically caused by a corruption in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager settings. Please note that it is not abnormal to spend up to twenty minutes on this screen, especially on a first sync.
To fix this problem, you would want to do the following:
- Uninstall the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software. IMPORTANT: You should see an option to remove the user settings. You need to select this.
- Reinstall the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
- Connect the handheld to BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
- Reconfigure the Intellisync settings. (Please see the BlackBerry setup guide if you need more assistance with this.)
