How It Works - USB Sync

CompanionLink will sync ACT! with your webOS device. And we'll do it securely and direct using the USB cable that came with your device. No cloud servers hosting your data. No over-the-air data transmission involved. Your data - direct to your device.

CompanionLink works in tandem with the free CL USB Sync app for HP webOS. CL USB Sync includes business-friendly apps for your tasks and notes. Calendar and contacts sync to the native webOS calendar and contacts on the device.

Update: On October 14, 2011, CompanionLink released a webOS sync update that now supports all webOS 2.0 and 3.0 devices, including the HP Touchpad, HP Pre 3, and HP Veer! More info

Getting Started

  1. Install CompanionLink on your PC and configure it to sync HP webOS direct via USB.
  2. Install CL USB Sync on your HP webOS device and connect it to the PC with a USB cable.
  3. Begin synchronization by tapping the Sync icon from within CL USB Sync. CompanionLink will begin PC synchronization automatically.

How It Works - Sync via Google

CompanionLink will sync ACT! contacts, calendar, and tasks* with your Google, Gmail, or Google Apps account. This data will then sync automatically and over-the-air with your Android device courtesy of Google's free sync service. With our two-way sync, you have the freedom to edit information on your device, in your Google account, or in ACT!.

*Google currently does not sync Google Tasks to webOS devices. More info .

Getting Started

  1. Install CompanionLink on your PC and configure it with your Google username and password.
  2. Once configured, hit "Synchronize" and your data will sync between Google and your PC.
  3. Configure webOS Synergy to sync with your Google account. Once configured, your webOS device will continuously stay in sync with your Google account.

CompanionLink syncs ACT! contact notes and histories

Contact note items will appear on the handheld device prefaced by the text "(Note)".

Contact histories will appear prefaced by the text "(History)".

To enter a history item on the handheld device, create a contact note prefaced by text in the following format: "m/d/yyyy (History)".

Example:

1/18/2011 (Note) Meeting was held on merger of two...

Any text entered into the contact note that is not formatted as a history item will sync to ACT! as a contact note.

By default, CompanionLink only syncs contact notes from ACT!. You can enable synchronization of ACT! contact histories in CompanionLink, under Advanced Settings -> Note Options.

Sync your PC tasks with Google Tasks

CompanionLink offers two options to sync tasks with Google:

  1. Tasks sync to Google Tasks. Your PC tasks sync to Google's native task list, however, Google currently does not sync tasks with any device.
  2. Tasks sync to Google Calendar. Your PC tasks sync to Google Calendar as untimed events. This allows your tasks to sync with your device via the calendar.

Both options are available in CompanionLink 5. If you rely heavily on tasks, we recommend using one of our other sync methods that syncs tasks directly with your device.
