When it comes to smartphone and computer applications (simply known as apps), social media apps probably take up the majority of space on most people’s phones and are some of the most visited websites.

Some of the most popular apps/social media websites in the United States include Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube, with other apps/websites like WhatsApp, Snapchat, and Pinterest also being pretty popular. While social media is good to have (for both personal and business use), there are other types of apps that are also useful.

1: Business Apps/Websites

Whether you’re running your own business or are working for another business, having certain business apps on your phone and computer can be helpful— and maybe even necessary.

Trello/Trello.com

Trello is a project management app and website that allows businesses to keep track of project development. This app is helpful for any type of project a business may have, and it’s perfect for businesses with remote workers.

Slack/Slack.com

A lot of businesses use Slack to keep in touch with members of a team project, especially if remote workers are involved. It gives the option to create threads for different teams and projects, and it allows for easy communication between parties.

Asana/Asana.com

Asana is another app  and website similar to Slack in that you’re able to easily manage projects. However, unlike Slack, Asana has a premium subscription— but it also has a free version that can be just as helpful. The free version still allows you to manage multiple projects and teams that require individual attention.

2: Communication Apps/Websites

Communication apps are great for keeping in touch, whether it’s for business (like the apps mentioned above) or with friends and family. Social media apps can be considered communication apps, but there are other apps that are created specifically for communicating with others.

Telegram

This is a popular app that allows for basic text communication as well as video chat. Telegram is one of the more popular communication apps around the world. This app is also available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, or you can use the website version, telegram.org.

Discord

Discord is one of the more popular communication apps, and it’s mainly used for people to come together and share their passions. This app allows for different channels to be created to discuss different topics, and each channel has a moderator. IT can also be downloaded on Windows, Mac, and the PS5 and Xbox game systems.

3: Google Apps

Google is probably most well-known for being a search engine (and it is the number one search engine in the world), but it has so many more features. If you have an Android device, then you have the Google Play app that allows you to download your apps. If you don’t have an Android, you can still use the websites or apps on iOS listed below.

Chrome

Google Chrome is a browser by Google that can be downloaded on any smartphone— even iOS devices. Apple’s default browser is Safari, but you can download Chrome from the App Store.

Drive

Google Drive is a storage service that allows its users to store files in the cloud, as well as share and sync files across different devices.

Mail

Gmail is Google’s free email service, and it’s the largest email service in the world as of 2019. This app also includes chat spaces and Google Workspace for business uses.

4: Weather Apps

Weather apps are apps that many people may not think of as being essential until you need to check the weather. Many local news stations have their own weather apps, so it’s beneficial to have this type of weather app on your phone, but other types of weather apps are also beneficial.

Weather API

This is a unique computer software application that not only gives you your local forecast in real-time, but it also allows you to check weather forecasts from the past. This is great if you want to compare days or if you’re just curious about the weather one specific day from the past. Weather API is available online.

WeatherBug

If you spend a lot of time doing outdoor activities, then you’ll benefit from downloading WeatherBug. This app gives you basic weather information, but it also lets you know how favorable the weather is for doing certain outdoor activities.

The Weather Channel

The Weather Channel is probably the most well-known weather channel, and its app gives you more than just weather updates. You can also watch news stories from The Weather Channel. Unfortunately, the app’s free version comes with a lot of ads, but you can subscribe to a paid version if the apps are too bothersome. You can also visit weather.com on your computer.

Of course, you can download whatever apps you’d like to your smart device and/or laptop, but there are some apps out there that people aren’t aware of that will make your life easier.
