ERSP: ACT-WM via USB Walkthrough ACT! to Windows Mobile via ActiveSync WMDC
[AB42486] Below are some instructions on how to set up your sync between ACT! and Windows Mobile devices.
NOTE: For Windows XP, Windows Mobile Device Center is called ActiveSync.
Here is a web page that gives general information about our sync with ACT!. There are four steps; Install CompanionLink on your PC, Configure Windows Mobile Device Center, Configure CompanionLink, and Synchronize!

Please make sure you back up all related databases.
Setting up Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows Vista and Windows 7)
- Connect the USB cable to the handheld and the PC.
- Open Windows Mobile Device Center.
- If you have the option to "Set up your device":
- Click "Set up your device"
- Uncheck all the options for items to sync with.
- Click Next
- Enter a name for your phone, and clear the check box if you don?t want a shortcut for Windows Mobile Device Center on your desktop.
- Click Set Up
- If you have already set up your device:
- Click Mobile Device Settings.
- Click Change content sync settings.
- Uncheck all the options for items to sync with.
- Once Windows Mobile Device Center says 'Connected', disconnect the handheld.
Setting up ActiveSync (Windows XP)
- Connect the USB cable to the handheld and the PC.
- Open ActiveSync
- If you see the device status as "Connected", and do not get a setup wizard, go to the File menu and choose "Delete Mobile Device". Repeat this process until there are no more devices to delete, then disconnect and reconnect the handheld.
- When you connect the device and the setup wizard opens:
- Choose a username or make note of the default username
- Click Next
- Under "Synchronization Options", uncheck everything
- Click Next, then Next again, then Finish.
- Once ActiveSync says 'Connected', disconnect the handheld.
NOTE: Always disconnect the handheld before opening CompanionLink Setup.
Setting up CompanionLink on your PC
- Download and install CompanionLink Express or CompanionLink Professional.
- Run CompanionLink Setup.
- Choose "Windows Mobile" from the drop-down options.
- Click on Pocket PC Settings and verify the correct Windows Mobile username appears in the dropdown.
- Choose your version of Act as your Contact Manager.
- Click ACT! Settings
- Verify the correct database is selected, and the correct username and password entered.
- Check out the settings in Category Filter and Applications.
- If everything is correct, press Ok
- Exit CompanionLink
To Synchronize
- Connect the USB cable to the handheld and the PC.
- Windows Mobile Device Center will take it from there!
