ACT! 2005+ Diagnostics

Here are the ACT! Database Maintenance Procedures, as written by ACT! support from Sage Software. IMPORTANT: Please create a backup of your database prior to following these instructions. For instructions on doing so please visit the website below:

Repair Database:

  1. Ensure that the ACT! program is closed.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  3. In the Open field, enter either actdiag (ACT! 2007+), act8diag (ACT! 2006) or act7diag (ACT! 2005), and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches.
  4. Click the Databases button from the navigation bar. A list of your databases appears.
  5. Click the rectangle on the left side of the DATABASE name to select the entire row displaying the database information.
  6. Right click the database listing and from the pop-up menu, choose Repair Database. The Repair Database dialog box appears.
  7. Click Yes to proceed with the repair process. The Repair Database dialog box appears.
  8. Click OK.

Reindex Database:

  1. Ensure that ACT! is closed.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  3. In the Open field, enter either actdiag (ACT! 2007+), act8diag (ACT! 2006) or act7diag (ACT! 2005), and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches.
  4. Click the Databases button from the navigation bar. A list of your databases appears.
  5. Click the rectangle on the left side of the DATABASE name to select the entire row displaying the database information.
  6. Right-click the database listing and from the pop-up menu, choose Reindex Database, the Reindex Database dialog box appears.
  7. Click Yes to proceed with the procedure. The Reindex Database message appears.
  8. Click OK to complete the reindex process.


Rebuild Schema:

  1. Ensure that ACT! is closed.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  3. In the Open field, enter either actdiag (ACT! 2007+), act8diag (ACT! 2006) or act7diag (ACT! 2005), and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches.
  4. Click the Databases button from the navigation bar. A list of your databases appears.
  5. Click the rectangle on the left side of the DATABASE name to select the entire row displaying the database information.
  6. Right-click the database listing and from the pop-up menu, choose Database Rebuild, and then click Rebuild Schema. The Rebuild Schema dialog box appears.
  7. Click Yes to proceed with the schema rebuild. The "completed Schema Rebuild" message appears.
  8. Click OK to complete the rebuild process.

Rebuild OLE/DB Report Objects:

  1. Ensure that ACT! is closed.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  3. In the Open field, enter either actdiag (ACT! 2007+), act8diag (ACT! 2006) or act7diag (ACT! 2005), and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches.
  4. Click the Databases button from the navigation bar. A list of your databases appears.
  5. Click the rectangle on the left side of the DATABASE to select the entire row displaying the database information.
  6. Right-click the database listing and from the pop-up menu, choose Database Rebuild, and then click Rebuild OLE/DB Report Objects. The Rebuild OLE/DB Reporting Objects dialog box appears.
  7. Click Yes to continue with the rebuild process. The Rebuild OLE/DB Reporting Objects message appears.
  8. Click OK to complete the process.


Rebuild Sync Objects:

  1. Ensure that ACT! is closed.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  3. In the Open field, enter either actdiag (ACT! 2007+), act8diag (ACT! 2006) or act7diag (ACT! 2005), and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches.
  4. Click the Databases button from the navigation bar. A list of your databases appears.
  5. Click the rectangle on the left side of the DATABASE name to select the entire row displaying the database information.
  6. Right-click the database listing and choose Database Rebuild, and then click Rebuild Sync Objects. The Rebuild Sync Objects dialog box appears.
  7. Click Yes to continue. The Rebuild Sync Objects dialog box appears.
  8. Click OK to complete the process.

Fix Corrupt Activities:

  1. Ensure that ACT! is closed.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  3. In the Open field, enter either actdiag (ACT! 2007+), act8diag (ACT! 2006) or act7diag (ACT! 2005), and then click OK. The ACT! Diagnostics utility launches.
  4. Click the Databases button from the navigation bar. A list of your databases appears.
  5. Click the rectangle on the left side of the DATABASE name to select the entire row displaying the database information.
  6. Right-click the database listing and choose Database Fixes, and then click Activities/Fix Known Activity Data Issues.
  7. Click OK to complete the process.
