SEO MCP Servers for Agencies in 2027: One Server per Task

This guide is for SEO agencies connecting an SEO MCP stack to ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor. It maps the work an agency does in a normal week to the SEO MCP server that should own each step, from finding domains to validating links to checking demand. You will leave with a task map, a seven-step agent workflow, and the instructions to put in the agent's brief so a junior teammate can rerun it.

Most comparisons put keyword research, backlink analysis, domain discovery and client reporting in one column called "SEO tools." Those are different workloads with different data costs, so I map the stack by the decisions instead.

The order keeps the expensive data for the end. Nobody should pay for a deep link audit on a raw candidate, and nobody should ask a catalog tool to judge search demand.

Task 1: A Domain Layer the Agency Can Rerun

The first SEO MCP server in the chain searches real inventory and returns records the team can act on. Karma.Domains covers 13M+ domains, adds 400k+ new domains a day from 40 auction sources, and searches auction, expired, backorder and buy-now bases with 90+ filters, including filters on archived content.

To see what that layer does for a real brief, I ran a legal-niche search through the Karma.Domains MCP server on 26 October 2026. Auctions in the Legal Services category with at least 20 Majestic referring domains and five years in the archive returned 1,451 reports. Adding history filters (KarmaScore 80 or higher, no more than three content changes, at least 80% English pages, gambling, adult and high-risk finance excluded) brought that to 250.

Two things from that run shaped how I'd brief an agent:

• The history filter does most of the cutting, but it is not the final word. rococpa.com passed every filter, yet its last archived title belongs to a Chinese shoe and hat trading company. A person still opens each survivor.
• Link counts and authority can disagree badly. vidhivishwaassociates.com shows 2,379 Majestic referring domains and an Ahrefs DR of 0. Explaining that gap is the job of the next server.

The agent can also save the filter, tag the 250 reports by client and stage, and leave a note on each, so the next run starts from the saved search instead of a fresh prompt. CatchDoms and UpSnatch also publish MCP access to their catalogs and are worth a test against the TLDs your clients buy.

Task 2: Ahrefs MCP for the Shortlist

Once the list is short, the agency can afford depth. Ahrefs' hosted MCP exposes tool groups for Site Explorer overview, backlinks, referring domains, anchors, organic keywords, top pages, site audits, rank tracking and batch analysis (Ahrefs MCP tool categories).

Ask it to inspect the referring-domain distribution, look for a single-link dependency, flag anchors that don't fit the planned site and compare current signals with the archived topic. I would rather run a serious backlink review on 20 candidates than pull shallow data for 2,000.

Task 3: Semrush MCP for the Business Case

A clean old domain is not automatically useful for a client. Semrush MCP exposes SEO, traffic, market and read-only project data. MCP calls draw on the same API units as direct API requests (Semrush MCP overview).

Use it to test the commercial side: keyword demand, the ranking field, the competitor set and estimated traffic. A domain can have a clean history and decent links and still have no credible link to the client's current services. This layer shows that before anyone writes a build plan.

Task 4: DataForSEO When the Workflow Needs Breadth

DataForSEO is a programmable supplier across SERPs, keyword data, backlinks, on-page analysis and business data. Its current MCP approach gives the model a documentation index and an authenticated API request tool instead of dozens of separate tools (DataForSEO MCP guide).

That design is flexible, so the prompt has to be specific. Name the API family, geography, output size and the decision you want to support. "Analyze this domain" invites the model to wander through paid endpoints.

A Seven-step Workflow for the SEO MCP Server Stack

1. Search domain inventory with the client brief: language, TLDs, niche and a few broad quality thresholds.
2. Filter on archived history and remove topic flips, spam, doorway use and unstable ownership.
3. Save the filter and tag the surviving reports by client and review stage.
4. Send only the shortlist to Ahrefs for link and anchor analysis.
5. Use Semrush or DataForSEO to test search demand and competitive fit.
6. Create a share link with the evidence, caveats and auction deadline.
7. Have a senior reviewer approve or reject the acquisition.

If a report is missing SEO fields, SEO Enrich can request them right away. Most reports already contain SEO data, so it is not a default step.

What to Put in the Agent's Brief

I'd give the agent boundaries and skip the personality:

• the client's niche, language, location and prohibited topics;
• acceptable TLDs and auction sources;

• what evidence each recommendation must carry;
