Transcript:In this video, we’ll show you how to synchronize Outlook with Android via USB. As you can see here, we’ve populated Outlook with Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Notes. First, open up CompanionLink Setup from your desktop, or start menu. The first thing you’ll want to do is select Android from the drop-down list. Then select your contact manager. Here, we’ll choose Outlook. The first thing you want to do is open the Outlook Settings button. This will let you specify which Outlook data folders to sync with. You can also choose to include subfolders for each folder. The Applications tab will let you choose which data types to synchronize, along with the direction of the sync. You can choose a one-way sync from either PC to the phone, or the phone to the PC. Or, choose Sync Both Ways. The Purge and Reload option will wipe all the data from the phone before performing the sync. Once you’ve configured all your settings, you’re ready to synchronize. However, you’ll have to set up the phone first. Do not click the Synchronize button in CompanionLink. OK. Now that we’ve configured CompanionLink on your PC, it’s time to set up your phone. Here with me today I have the HTC EVO 4G. The first thing that you want to do on your Android phone is download CompanionLink’s app, DejaOffice. You can download DejaOffice direct from the Android Market. Just search for "DejaOffice". Or, you can visit www.companionlink.com/androidapp. Now, once you’ve installed DejaOffice, go ahead and open it up. I’m gonna tap on the icon right here. Now, the very first time that you launch DejaOffice, you’re going to be presented with the option to sync with the native contacts and calendar app. What this means is that when you initially sync your data in from CompanionLink, your contacts and calendar show up from within DejaOffice. Enabling the sync with the native apps allows your contacts and calendar to also appear in the native Android contacts and calendar apps. This guarantees third-party compatibility with other applications, as well as functions such as incoming phone calls will display the right caller ID. Once you’ve made your selection, just hit OK. DejaOffice will take a second to process here, and you’ll be ready to use it. OK, so now we’re ready to begin synchronization. The first thing that you want to do is connect up your phone up to your PC, using the USB cable. When you initially connect your Android-based phone to your PC, you’re given the option of what USB connection type to make. For the purposes of synchronization, do not choose "disk drive". Leave it in charge-only mode. Once you’ve set that up, open DejaOffice and hit the Sync button. What this does is it mounts the SD card on the phone to the PC so that CompanionLink can access it to write new synchronization data. Once you see the message on-screen that CompanionLink has finished synchronization, you can press OK on the phone. This will mount the SD card back onto the phone so that DejaOffice can complete the synchronization process. Now that the sync is completed, let’s check our contacts. And, as we can see, all our contacts from Outlook are now there in our phone. If you need additional help or support, please visit www.companionlink.com/support. Thanks for watching. |
