How to Sync Microsoft Outlook with Android using Google

Transcript:

In this video, we’re going to show you how to synchronize Outlook with Android-based phones through Google using CompanionLink.

CompanionLink is compatible with all versions of Outlook 2000 and higher, including the new Outlook 2010, 32-bit and 64-bit.

As you can see here, we’ve populated Outlook with Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks. Now I’m going to open Google. As you can see here, we’re starting with a Google account with zero contacts and a blank calendar.

The first step is to open up CompanionLink Setup after you’ve installed CompanionLink on your PC. First, select your sync target. In this case, we’ll be doing Android via Google. Then select the PC application you’ll be looking to synchronize, in this case, Outlook.

First we’ll hit the Google settings button and enter your Google username and password here. Next, click on the Outlook settings. Here, you’ll be able to specify which Outlook folders we’ll be working with, as well as the sync direction. You can configure one-way sync or two-way sync for each data type. Next, click the auto sync button.

CompanionLink also features an auto sync timer, which will let you specify how often CompanionLink syncs with your Google account.

Finally, click Advanced Settings. You may want to go through each one of these tabs and just double-check and see if there’s any settings that you’d like to configure before you begin synchronization.

From here, we’re ready to begin synchronization. Just hit the large Synchronize button on the main CompanionLink screen. The first time that you sync, CompanionLink may take a little longer than usual, as it has to go through and read all your Outlook data. Subsequent syncs will be much faster. As you can see, once synchronization is completed, CompanionLink shows you a summary, showing you exactly how many Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks were synched.

Now, let’s open up our Google account. If we refresh the screen, we can see that Google Contacts is now populated with our Outlook data. Refresh the Google Calendar, and you can see all of our calendar data is there as well. If you’ve configured auto sync, you can close the main CompanionLink window and it will continue to run in your system tray, synchronizing however often you’ve specified in the auto sync settings.

To completely exit CompanionLink, just right-click on the icon in the system tray and select Exit.

Now we’re gonna show you how to set up your phone to sync with your Google account.

All Android-based phones have the ability to sync contacts and calendar with that Google account. First, you want to go into your Android settings, select Accounts and Sync, then hit Add New Account. From here, select Google. And if you already have a Google account, just type in your username and password here. It’s also really easy to sign up for a new one if you need to sign up for a new Google account.

You want to open up the account settings and make sure that the Sync Calendar and Sync Contacts boxes are checked. Now, it should just take a minute for Google to pull all your contacts and calendar down into the phone.

Here, I’m opening up the contact screen and checking on the sync progress. From here, open up the contacts screen, and as you can see, once Google finishes synchronization, all your contacts will be present on the phone.
