How To Switch From Synching Direct To Synching Through Outlook
- If you have any data in Microsoft Outlook or your handheld that is not in your contact manager, stop here and contact our Technical Support department.
- Disconnect your handheld.
- Open Microsoft ActiveSync.
- Go to the File menu.
- Select Delete Partnership and choose Yes. (Note: You should not delete the synchronized files folder if you are prompted to do so.)
- Repeat the previous step until this option is greyed out.
- Soft-reset your handheld.
- Reconnect your handheld.
- You will be prompted to set up a new partnership. Do this. You need to make sure that Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes are checked. Do NOT check anything else at this point.
- Your handheld will sync with Outlook. Make sure that this completes without errors. Any errors must be resolved before proceeding to the next step.
- Remove CompanionLink's record of what was synchronized.
- Open the CompanionLink folder (located at c:\Program Files\CompanionLink and/or c:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\CompanionLink\CompanionLink)
- Delete all files ending with an extension of ".dat". If you cannot find these files, please see How To Display All Files.
- Reconfigure CompanionLink.
- Open CompanionLink Setup.
- Click on Settings. If you see the user profile screen, click Next.
- Select Pocket PC Sync Through Outlook.
- Click Next.
- Click Configure. Your settings should not have changed.
- Click on the Purge And Reload tab. Select at least Contacts, Calendar and Tasks. This will delete all of the data from your handheld and Outlook and replace it from your contact manager. This is necessary to prevent duplicates.
- Click Apply, OK, Next and Finish.
- Click on the Synchronize button in CompanionLink. Your contact manager data will now sync through Outlook to your handheld.
