Please setup this handheld before synchronizing

Symptom:
- Synchronizing a Blackberry handheld
- Error message: 'Please setup this handheld before synchronizing'

Explanation:
This is a bug in CompanionLink Express 2.0, version 2581. It also occurs when the wrong BlackBerry PIN is selected in CompanionLink.

Fix:
  1. Upgrade to CompanionLink 2.0, build 2583, or higher if you have not already.
  2. Connect the handheld.
  3. Open BlackBerry's Desktop Manager.
  4. In Desktop Manager, what is the status of the handheld?
    • If this says Connected, make a note of the PIN number.
    • If this says Disconnected, disconnect the handheld and try to connect it again.
    • If this says Disabled, go to the Options menu and choose Connection.
  5. Once you have the PIN number, disconnect the handheld.
  6. Open CompanionLink Setup.
  7. Click on Settings (then Next if you see the user profile screen).
  8. Select BlackBerry OS as your handheld PDA.
  9. Select the PIN from the username dropdown.
