ActiveSync can only sync your Pocket PC to a single destination
Symptom:
Error message from ActiveSync: "ActiveSync can only synchronize your Pocket PC to a single destination.
Please use ActiveSync settings to specify a single destination."
Explanation:
This error means that ActiveSync has multiple conduits doing the same thing. We typically see this when both the Clx conduits and Outlook conduits are selected to sync. (For example, both Clx-Contacts and Contacts.)
Fix:
You need to decide whether you want to sync direct or through Outlook. You can find out which you have selected in CompanionLink by disconnecting your handheld, then opening CompanionLink Setup and clicking on Settings. (If you see the user profile screen, click Next.) Follow the instructions below for the handheld type you have selected here.
To sync direct:
- Disconnect the handheld.
- Open Microsoft ActiveSync.
- Click on the File menu.
- Choose Delete.
- Repeat step 3 and 4 until the Delete option cannot be clicked on.
- Open CompanionLink Setup.
- Press Ctrl-Shift-D. This should open a new folder.
- Delete the contents of this folder.
- Close this folder and exit CompanionLink.
- Reconnect the handheld.
- A new partnership wizard will open. Go through this. When asked what you want to synchronize with, uncheck everything.
- Once the handheld has synchronized, disconnect the handheld.
- Open CompanionLink Setup. The configuration wizard should open.
- Select your language and click Next.
- Select Windows Mobile/Pocket PC Sync Direct and click Next.
- Select your contact manager and click Configure.
- Click on the Category Field tab. If you get an error here, stop and contact our Technical Support department with the text of the error message.
- Go to the Purge And Reload tab. Check the first three boxes.
- Configure any other settings you wish.
- Click OK, Next and Finish.
- Exit CompanionLink.
- Reconnect the handheld.
To sync through Outlook:
- Disconnect your handheld if it is connected.
- Open Microsoft ActiveSync.
- Click on the File menu.
- Choose Delete Partnership or Delete Mobile Device, depending on which option you have. Repeat this step until you no longer have this option.
- Reconnect your handheld.
- A setup wizard will open.
- Click Next until you get to the screen with checkboxes for your synchronization options.
- Uncheck everything except Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes. These may say Outlook beside them or may say nothing. If they say something else, then these are the wrong conduits.
- Click Next and Finish.
